The 5th Gospel was built on a simple conviction:
Christianity that confronts nothing changes nothing.
Christ did not call us to become agreeable decorum in a culture that rejects Him. He called us to bear witness - to speak truth, carry responsibility, love without cowardice, and stand without needing the approval of the crowd.
But Christian confrontation begins with the Christian.
Before the Gospel confronts the world through us, it confronts what is false, disordered, and unrepentant within us. Strength is not domination, and courage is not permission to make an idol of our own anger.
We do not need to control the world.
We need to faithfully carry what has been placed in our hands.
That means refusing two easy alternatives: a Christianity made timid enough to offend no one, and a Christianity that mistakes anger, self-righteousness, or tribalism for courage.
Christ is neither. He is King.
Our work draws from Scripture, theology, philosophy, history, and art - as well as the difficult questions modern men and women are already asking about truth, freedom, suffering, responsibility, obedience, and God.
We believe Christianity can withstand those questions. More than that, we believe Christ has questions for us.
The Four Gospels were written to be understood - not merely repeated.
Scripture gives us more than words to repeat. It gives us truths to understand, our lives to examine, and claims to carry into the world. A Christian need not quote chapter and verse every time he speaks. But he should never speak as though Scripture has no authority over him.
Christian witness is not confined to direct quotation. Biblical truth can be carried through argument, imagery, history, philosophy, and ordinary human language. But however it is expressed, it must remain accountable to the Word it claims to represent.
So we make things meant to confront before they comfort.
Sometimes that confrontation is directed toward the culture. Sometimes toward unbelief. Sometimes toward a Christianity that has made itself harmless. And sometimes it is directed toward the person wearing the shirt.
Because these are not decorations. They are declarations.
The name The 5th Gospel does not suggest another Gospel or another revelation. There are four canonical Gospels, and we add nothing to them.
The fifth is the one the world reads in those who claim to know Him.
Our clothing is one small part of that witness. Our writing, art, and media are another. We are here to make statements worth remembering, arguments worth considering, and work worthy of the One whose name we carry.
Do not wear what you will not live.
